"Have you ever had a dream that you, um, you had, your, you- you could, you’ll do, you- you wants, you, you could do so, you- you’ll do, you could- you, you want, you want him to do you so much you could do anything?"

Notable Locations

Kalixcis is a rather sparse star-system. With only a few planets orbiting the star Bezuts along with a notable amount of asteroid belts, and a nebula-ring surrounding the entire system. Which has been called the 'Gate' for as long as history is concerned.

Kalixcis

The home-planet of the Sarathi and Elzuosa. It is closely orbited by the moon Elefel and a distinctly blue asteroid-ring. Kalixcian history is spread out through various eras, with one notable event being an apocalyptic disaster known as the Cataclysm. Nearly wiping out the entire population of Kalixcis, it is largely unknown what exactly caused it. Most knowledge being of what happened after. The Cataclysm is often drawn parallel with the Night of Fire in terms of destruction.

Elefel

The red moon Elefel is a strange entity in the Bezuts system, as well to the Kalixcians. Few surviving records really hold mention of the moon, save for one containing an eerie tale and an older name translating to 'That-Which-Waits'. Beyond this, there has been a great amount of incidents that have occurred interacting with the moon after spaceflight was discovered.

Hadri Oidot Station

An early construction that sits parallel with Kalxcis. Its original purpose was for the mining of two rich asteroid belts near its location before being converted into a renowned shipyard. The station has also served as a meeting point for other polities to visit, rather than allowing diplomatic discussions to take place on Kalixcis proper. More quietly however, the station has begun the construction of additional armaments and orbital batteries. With the purpose of acting as a 'barrier' of sorts.

Culture and Governments

Pan-Gezena Federation

“Gezena belongs to the people, to us. We need to do everything we can to protect it.” — Excerpt from former Prime Minister Azazos’ Inauguration Address, 1550 KCE.

The Pan-Gezena Federation (P.G.F. or PGF), sometimes referred to as simply Gezena or the Federation, is a nation on the planet Kalixcis in the Bezuts system. The polity is a federal republic, consisting of states and unincorporated holdings. Gezena is considered to be one of the largest and most powerful nations of the modern day, with a military consistently ranked as the strongest in the known galaxy and a highly developed economy.

The Pan-Gezena Federation consists of many states of varying sizes and numerous holdings, which are unincorporated colonies, stations, and uninhabited planets in several locations. Though these states have some degree of self-governance, federal-level legislation is enforced across the entirety of the Federation. The nation is split into two branches, the Legislative Branch and the Executive Branch. Both are located at Federation City, a purpose-build administrated complex at the heart of Gezena with a city built up around it.

Gezenan ideology revolves around two things; freedom and national pride. Gezenan schools reinforce within children the idea that freedom is the greatest thing in the universe, and that the PGF is the freest, and thus greatest nation in the known galaxy. Other factions typically find this inherent nationalism to be obnoxious and foolish, but it is quite effective when it comes to ensuring the population supports the government in nearly all things.

In addition, this abundant love of freedom has lead to the population of the PGF being incredibly in favor of the act of spreading freedom throughout the galaxy, mainly in the form of propaganda campaigns, aggressive diplomacy, heavy colonization, and wars of liberation against minor powers viewed as too authoritarian for the PGF’s tastes.

Wider Kalixcian Culture

Sarathi highly value self-determination and living the life one believes is right for themselves. Often, Sarathi choose names for themselves that embody what they do or how they want to live life. A Sarathi engineer might make their name Snips-The-Wires, whereas one who prefers to live alone might take the moniker Walks-Lonely-Miles. Note that these names are translations to Galactic Common, and do not carry their full intonation like they would in Sarathi dialect.

Sarathi do not believe in involuntary association, and their lives are lived accordingly. Sarathi young are raised communally until the age of 7 (approximated to Earth cycles), where they choose a “family” that generally represents a “way of life” they think suits them. Membership in these families is generally quite fluid, as Sarathi switch between them depending on their current ideals and desired way of life.

Their spacefaring organizations function largely the same way. Several different families maintain different views on the purpose of life in space. As these families rise and fall in popularity, new ones appear that represent new ways of living and lines of thought.

Celebrating diversity and identity is one core part of Sarathi culture, but another is the explicit development of new families as a sort of social scientific process. Some Sarathi dedicate their lives to the discovery of new variations on the mix of lifestyle and ideals that consists a family. Whether writing philosophical papers or eking out life in new and exciting niches, the Sarathi are unique in their incredibly active attempts at creating new ways of life.

Sarathi evolved alongside Elzuosa on Kalixcis, and as such their culture is shared between them, freely being parts of the same societies and families. Elzuosa are, however, much rarer than Sarathi, having a lower overall population.

History

Pre-Spaceflight

Kalixcian history in this period is a rather heated topic of debate, given that so much knowledge was lost to the Cataclysm. Unfortunately as a result, Kalixcian history is more of a niche hobby in all but name. However, the numerous conflicts told within these records are extremely popular among the public. The Pale Wars holding a particular interest, the two wars that were fought between wider Kalixcis and the Farlight Drifters.

The Pale Wars

These two wars nearly saw the total genocide of the Farlight Drifters if it were not for their decisive victory of the second Pale War. Little insights are given as to why these wars had taken place to begin with, leaving much to speculation. These wars however set in stone the animosity the two peoples would forever share.

The Mining Venture Incidents

An extremely infamous part of Kalixcian history. The Farlight Drifters were the first to construct the earliest star-ships under coercion and forced contract, and later the first to journey out into space. Drifters were afterwards accompanied by Kalixcian crewmembers, with most being given immediate commanding stations aboard these ships regardless of their inexperience. This predictably led to many conflicts between the two groups, which not only complicated the first mining operations and attempted landings on Elefel, but also resulted in a great number of casualties. The three most notable being the 'Blackrock collision', the 'Ringfire Explosions', and the 'Ghost Landings'. The Drifters were immediately accused as being responsible of these incidents. Which only fueled the public's animosity to them as the Drifters frequently and loudly criticized Kalixcian culture and governments. Afterwards the Drifters were regulated only to the construction of new ships, and a memorial was erected to those crew who had died during these Ventures, with Drifter names being left out.

The Farlight Flight

The Drifters had planned to leave their home-world since the schematics of the first star-ship. Most were reluctant, not wanting to leave their ancestral homes but knew they had little choice. This was only reinforced as the wider Kalixcian public regarded them condescendingly and scornfully which was encouraged by Kalixcian governments. Along with the companies the governments often coerced Drifters into dangerous labor and construction contracts, with the most important being the development of star-ships and later the Bluespace FTL Drive. It was almost over in a moment, numerous amounts of star-ships mounted with these drives were stolen and hijacked. Forming a massive fleet above the atmosphere of Kalixcis, and destroying the newly constructed orbital shipyards before vanishing into Bluespace, never to be seen in the system again.

First Contact

It was rather awkward.

Founding of Nanotrasen

When first diplomatic talks begun with the Solarian Confederation, mutual interest had been found within the two groups. Shortly after discussions and drafting the Bezuts-Sol Collaboration saw to the early formation of Nanotrasen. With negations finalized, it was hoped that Nanotrasen would bring benefit to both systems and later the rest of the galactic community.

Relations

After the Inter-Corporate Wars, relations with Nanotrasen have been rather formal. The P.G.F. still holds a healthy number of ties to the company however, benefiting from quite a few of its discoveries and developments.

Governmental relations between Bezuts and Sol had started with strong cooperation before becoming rather neutral as both system began pursuing their own interests.

The Farlight Drifters are still regarded distastefully.

Playing a character from this location

There are many reasons a Kalixcian would venture out into space, regardless if you are a Sarathi or Elzuosa.

You would most likely possess some of these traits:

  • Being interested in the philosophies of others.
  • Have a distaste of Drifters.
  • Feel more comfortable with a found family like your crew.
