Guide to Text Formatting

Text can be formatted in all of the places it shows up, notably when chatting or writing on papers. This guide seeks to catalogue all of the available formatting for both separate types.

Chat Messages

Accessible through the standard speech hotkey.

Formatting

Bold Type	+text+	Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet	Can be combined with other basic formatting.
Italic Type	|text|	Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet	Can be combined with other basic formatting.

Speech Type

Format	Syntax	Example	Notes
Speak	text	Character states, "Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet."	Message will be spoken audibly. Cannot be heard through walls or by deaf characters. Will be picked up by radios with their microphone active.
Whisper	#text	Character whispers, "Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet"	Message will only be fully audible by adjacent characters; anyone further away will only hear snippets or simply not hear anything at all. Automatically applied to speech when speaking through a radio prefix.
Action	text*	Character Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet	Changes your text to a visual action instead of speech. Visible to deaf characters, but cannot be seen by blind characters. Alternatively, can be used over radio communication when used in a radio-prefixed message; this will send your text as an audible action over the radio.

Telecommunication

Subspace-Bounced Radio	:l text OR :r text	[Common] Character whispers, "Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet."	Changes depending on which hand the radio is held in. Message will be whispered into the radio and broadcasted to all radios on the same channel within the same map. Channel name or frequency will be displayed in brackets. Can be audibly emoted through. A radio with hotmic enabled (the microphone button in the radio UI) will automatically broadcast all speech around it, instead of just specific messages.
Headset Radio	;text OR :h text	[Common] Character whispers, "Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet."	Only available when telecomms are set up on the map. Message will be whispered into the headset and broadcasted to all headsets with the same channel enabled within the same map. Can be audibly emoted through. A radio with hotmic enabled (the microphone button in the radio UI) will automatically broadcast all speech around it, instead of just specific messages. Headsets can use encryption keys to speak on specific encrypted channels over telecomms; these will appear in a different color with a different name in the brackets. Each encrypted channel has a different prefix.
Intercom Radio	:i text	[Common] Character whispers, "Lorem Ipsum Dolor Si Amet."	Must be used while close to a wall-mounted intercom. Message will be whispered into the intercom and broadcasted to all radios on the same channel within the same map. Channel name or frequency will be displayed in brackets. Can be audibly emoted through. An intercom with hotmic enabled (the microphone button in the radio UI) will automatically broadcast all speech around it, instead of just specific messages.
