The community rules exist to make sure the community stays healthy and to make sure the expectations are set as to what is and isn’t allowed. The in-character rules exist to make sure the game stays fun, and to established what is expected of players when they are asked to “roleplay”.

The reasons behind each rule are detailed in italics and brackets after the rule.

magic key behind all of the ruoolz

This is basically just to make sure people act in good faith and know how to act in good faith. You’re here to play with other people and exist in a community with other people. Your actions should take the existence of other people and their well-being into account?

Testing environment expectations

  • Shiptest is in early development, and everything is still in the works. This means the code, the rules, and the RP expectations and lore. Being on Shiptest means that you’re both here to have fun and to test the game out to see what still needs doing or changing. Experimentation and constructive feedback is encouraged.

Player age, maturity, mature content

  • Players under the age of 13 will be banned immediately in order to comply with Discord TOS. [If you’re this young and playing SS13, I beg you: please get as far away from Space Station 13’s community as a whole, for your own safety.]
  • NSFW images are banned from the community without exception. NSFW discussion is allowed as long as it does not “go too far”.
  • Erotic roleplay is banned from the game server without exception.
  • [ERP and sexual content are banned because of being a clusterfuck drama-wise, because not everything appeals to everyone’s niche tastes. ERP is banned because it detracts heavily from the roleplay quality. Your character and their actions in-game should not be centered around your fetishes. Characters on ERP servers typically tend to, though, and we really do not want this to happen here. A server allowing ERP makes the server “about” ERP more than anything else as much as they’d like to claim otherwise. Shiptest is not your cum rag and even if it was you’d be sharing it with a ton of other people and that’s gross. Do not go to Hooters for the wings.]

Bigotry

  • Any forms of hate speech are banned without question, including use of slurs, alleged “jokes”, and dogwhistles. Claiming you “didn’t know” what you said was hateful will rarely work unless you do legitimately appear to not know. Please try to accept people, even if you can’t understand them (as long as what they are isn’t actively harmful).
  • [Hate groups are all too common online, especially in SS13 and related communities. There are a LOT of people just trying to enjoy SS13 without seeing casually hateful attitudes in the community or game of any given server, and Shiptest is not going to be one of those servers. If who you are isn’t actively harmful to other people, you’re welcome here, and making sure every player understands and agrees to this is key to having a good time playing and talking with a healthy community. Additionally, bigotry frequently builds up slowly starting from minor comments in a “boiling the frog” type manner, which is why this will be enforced on a hair trigger. Do not fucking try.]

What The Fuck Is An RP

  • Shiptest is an RP server, which means part of the “point” of the game is to write improvised stories using a single character as your point of influence on the story.
  • There’s going to be RP guidelines written eventually if you have no idea what you’re doing.
  • “Is Shiptest MRP or HRP?” It’s RP. You RP.
  • Don’t break character in-character. Your character is insane if they know they’re in a videogame. Other characters would probably treat them as insane if they started acting like they were.
    • There’s a sort of toeing the line where your character might act very much like they’re in a videogame even if they don’t outright admit it. Remember that people realistically have goals that aren’t increasing the power and resources available to them. They’ll want things like comfort, socialization, and rest. Beelining for armor and guns above all else is a strange thing for a person to do and should be treated like it. But you should also avoid having to be treated that way.
  • The general atmosphere isn’t intended to be incredibly hard sci-fi: silly, unrealistic, and unscientific things exist in-universe. That said, it should be the natural result of these things existing that characters in-universe would also think these things are strange. The Clown Planet may or may not be canon, but if it was, that’d be fucked up, and everyone knows it.
  • The lore here is going to be easier to understand and more freeform than HRP servers, for the purpose of making it so that more in-depth RP is more accessible to everyone, and to make sure what things can happen aren’t exceedingly limited.
  • The mechanics are in part a videogame and in part a way of dictating what can and can’t happen. It’s like DnD? :crab:
  • In order to make sure things are actually fun for everyone, your character probably shouldn’t be:
    • Inclined to killing or being excessively destructive to the round without a realistic, human (yes even if they aren’t human) reason to it. You can’t grief and just say that your character is insane so it’s fine.
    • Something unable to be realistically represented or justified with in-game mechanics. (One inch tall, a lizard with hair, psychic, immortal). This also applies to claiming your character has properties that CAN be justified with in-game mechanics but aren’t actually mechanically present on your character (nanites, augmentations, various superpowers). If you think something SHOULD be able to be represented with in-game mechanics, feel free to suggest it or make a pull request adding it.
    • Something you’d need to get other people “in on” to an excessive degree, that they have no hope of following (the most famous person in the galaxy, makes people fall in love with them instantly on smell, etc).

Simplified IC Rules

  • Rule 0: Everything is funny once. This is not an excuse to be a shitter, this is freedom to experiment.
    • Rule 0.1: This is a multiplayer game. There are other real people playing this game. Respect them, and respect that this is a cooperative game, and meant to be fun for all.
  • Rule 1: Keep IC. This means that you can’t talk like you are in a videogame, or like you are typing to another person. This may not have a defined RP level, but expect repercussions for not RPing.
  • Rule 2: You’re playing somebody who has to work with other people on a daily basis. Act like it. Don’t be overtly anti-social or murderous.
    • Rule 2.1: Don’t create character gimmicks which require unreasonable amounts of people to be “In on it” or know your exact story to work. This includes things such as being “the most famous person in the galaxy.”
  • Rule 3: Lore here is variable, to create a conducive RP environment. Don’t get too insane with your IC backstory, and keep it sane.
  • Rule 4: This is still SS13, it’ll be wacky and fun. Embrace it. But don’t act like a caricature in the name of the funny.
  • Rule 5: No Metacomms or ICK OCK. These suck for anyone that isn’t you.
  • Rule 1984^2: Administrator ruling is final. Rules here are subject to change or bending at the discretion of admins. Cry about it.
  • Rule 7: Discord rules on Bigotry apply to the game server too, if you are found breaking them you will be banned. Get that shit outta here.
  • Rule 8cism: IC racism is allowed to the extent that it is funny to all parties involved. No saying the N-word with an L.

Simplified Discord Rules

  • Rule 0: Be respectful to other players, and respect who they are. Be mindful that you share this discord with other real people.

Rule 1: NSFW images and content are forbidden, this is not an ERP server. Take that to Skyrat. Discussion is allowed to an extent, err on the side of caution. Rule 2: Bigotry and discrimination will not be tolerated here. Slurs, including thinly veiled real slurs directed at fictional groups (i.e. the n word but you replaced a single letter), will not be tolerated here. Common dogwhistles and "jokes" will not be tolerated here. This rule will be enforced heavily. if you are planning on being a bigot, you will not be tolerated here.

  • Rule 3: SS13 is not a good place for children. If you are found to be under 16, you will be removed from the community. If you are under 13, you will be banned instantly per Discord TOS.
  • Rule 1984: Administrator verdicts and rulings are final. This is to keep the community not fucking shit. Project Leads are included in this, and have higher word over Administrators.
    • Rule 1999: Repeated toeing of the line at which a rule is broken will be treated as if the rule was actually broken. Don't tempt fate.
  • Rule 5: Stay on topic, keep relevant discussion to their relevant discord channels. If an admin says to move a conversation, move it. If an admin says to stop, you stop. DMs exist for conversations deemed unfit for Shiptest.
    • Rule 5.1: Keep personal information and external affairs out of Shiptest. This is not your friend group, this is an SS13 server. Please vent to people you actually know.
    • Rule 5.2: No politics. This isn't your place to state your cringe opinions. This is Shiptest. LGBTQ+ topics aren't politics, but remember Rule 2.
