Description

The Dwayne is one of the older classes of ships commonly seen on the Frontier, and one of the few such classes that doesn’t also carry a reputation for nightmarish conditions or high accident rates. Originally conceived of as a “mothership” for Nanotrasen mining shuttles that could enable long-duration mining missions at minimal cost, severe budget overruns and issues with the mining shuttle docking system left Nanotrasen with a massive number of mostly-completed hulls upon the project’s cancellation. These hulls were then quickly refurbished and sold on the civilian market, where they proved an immediate success on the Frontier. Contemporary Dwaynes can typically be found carrying a variety of mining equipment and extensive modifications unique to their captains.

"An earlier product produced by Nanotrasen Spaceworks, the Dwayne-class was originally a dedicated shuttle carrier intended as a replacement for expensive planet or asteroid-side mining installations. However, due to the project running into endless logistics issues, the original Dwayne-class with it's shuttles were only mass-produced for Nanotrasen Stations.

After the Corporate Wars, looking to make a quick buck and salvage what they could from the large number of hulls they had ready, Nanotrasen sold the rest of these hulls to the civilian market without the shuttles. Later redesigned to replace both empty hangars with cargo and mining bays, the Mark.IIs turned out to be a smash hit."

Introduction

The Mk. II Dwayne is a reliable ship designed for mining and cargo delivery. It comes with two spacious hangars that give it a lot of storage space - or room for potential renovations! - and equipment that allows them to mine efficiently from the get-go.

List of standard equipment and features:

  • A solar panel setup for generating power.
  • Two hangars - one meant for mining equipment storage, and another for general storage. Starboard one can also be easily renovated, if need be.
  • A functional smelter setup.
  • Three Flaming Arrow rifles and a Detective special revolver - enough weaponry to arm majority of the crew roundstart.
  • A large amount of mining gear, including handheld drills, scanners, EVA suits and more.
  • An adorable western pet - Frank the turtle!

Gameplay

  • Mining - Dwayne's intended purpose is mining. You'll do it either directly with handheld drills or by investing in a stationary drill. You can also take drilling jobs from the outpost for some bonus cash. As of right now however, ore holds mostly roleplay value, as it's not used for much outside of fuel.
  • Cargo - Dwayne has plenty of storage spaces. This lets you get a little wild with organization of ruin loot and other gear, or maybe even make an entire gimmick around performing cargo work!
  • Construction - Those storage spaces can also be renovated, if not used for cargo. With enough effort, you can put anything you want there!

Description

The Kilo-class is a very old and miniscule pattern of mining ship, produced in vast numbers over the centuries and commonly found in scrapyards or forgotten in storage. Most examples on the Frontier have been restored by Miskilamo Spacefaring using parts from other nonfunctional Kilos, producing a ship that is as inexpensive as it is cramped and unreliable. The low cost and ease of repair or replacement nevertheless make the Kilo very popular among budget-minded captains.

"This ship is terrible! It stinks, it's ugly, it's dirty, it has a cockroach infestation, the previous crew probably all died, this purple fungus-thing keeps making these weird-ass noises and honestly it's a miracle this ship can even take off! And don't even get me started on the maniac that wired this shit!"
— Average mechanic about the Kilo-class.

Introduction

The Kilo-class is a small mining ship designed by Miskilamo Spacefaring. The hull itself is extremely compact, which also transfers into it's high velocity. In typical Miskilamo fashion, every living facility has just enough space to fit the essentials, and basically nothing more. The ship does, however, come with enough equipment to mine semi-efficiently.

While the Kilo is definitely not the greatest ship ever, many spacers still manage to love it with their whole hearts, partially due to it's very unique aesthetic.

List of standard equipment and features:

  • A functional smelter setup.
  • Two double-barrel shotguns for hunting and self-defense purposes.
  • Some specialized mining gear, such as a handheld drill, a scanner and an EVA suit.
  • Maurice the tamed mi-go.

Gameplay

Kilo's intended purpose is mining - and that's what you are best equipped to do. Your handheld drill is one of the better tools for mining efficiently above the ground, while your mining scanner will help you locating underground deposits.

Of course, mining is not the only thing you can do. For example, a Kilo can be very easily turned into a salvage ship - all it needs is just a couple plasma cutters.
